In the unfortunate event of a fire, the heat causes a chemical reaction in the paint which causes the paint to expand creating a \u2018char\u2019. The paint can expand up to 50 times the original thickness, creating insulation, thus protecting the substrate. This insulation protects the steelwork from reaching a temperature which would cause structural failure of the building.<\/p>\n

Solvent based intumescent paints can be used in a multitude of ways. Steelwork application can be used external, semi-exposed and also indoors.<\/p>\n

Water-based coatings dry quickly to a hard, smooth finish. This compared to solvent based solutions can reduce application times by up to a half, thereby cutting installation costs. This also allows for speedier access for following trades.<\/p>\n

Intumescent paint can be used alongside other fire protection systems. However, due to the technical nature of its activation, great care must be taken on installation. <\/span>Mineral Fibre System<\/a><\/h3>\n

Mineral fibre boards are for use in interior or semi-exposed locations and provides up to four hours of protection. Its density and thickness are factory controlled for uniformity of application and adds minimal weight to the structural steel. It encases structural steel or other materials and can be applied in any temperature or weather conditions. As a board system it does not require any surface preparation to the substrate.
